About Shibori Scarves:
How are the shibori silk pleated scarves made?
We work with variations of traditional Japanese Shibori dye techniques. Specifically Arashi Shibori or Pole-Wrapping. The resulting fabric has a pleated texture as well as an intricate design.
Are the pleats permanent?
No, with wear this texture will gradually loosen, showing more of its patterning.
How do I care for the pleated shibori?
How long the pleating will last is an individual matter. With special care, the pleating can last for years. Keep the fabric dry. Store in a dry environment hanging on a padded hanger or loosely twisted with nothing resting on top. When traveling, slip it into a ziplock bag with some air to protect it from getting crushed. We encourage you to appreciate the special beauty of the work as it changes and shows more of its patterning. We do custom cleaning and re-pleating! See below.
How is the pleated shibori cleaned?
When it must be cleaned and/or the pleats have relaxed, simply send it back to us for custom cleaning and re-pleating. We only ask for a small fee and shipping. Less than a dry cleaner!
How long does re-pleating take?
Typically 2-4 weeks.
About hand-painted clothing:
How do I clean the hand-painted clothing?
Dry cleaning is best for preserving the vibrancy of color and for less wear and tear on the seams. However, everything can go through the washer on gentle in COLD WATER with like colors or washed separately. Tumble dry low. Iron medium-high heat. (Tip: if you get it directly out of the dryer, you won’t need to iron it!)
Are the raw edges intentional?
Yes. We often leave the edges raw on the classic box top. We do this because we like the casual look as it wears.
If you prefer the edges finished on a piece that has raw edges, please send a message. This will incur a $20 charge.
